Basil (Ocimum basilcum) originates from India bu now grows wild around the Mediterranean where it is used in many dishes.
Can be grown ouside, in the greenhouse or on your window sill. Sow seeds in April in a 5cm pot with about 5 seeds per pot, cover the seeds with a thin layer of compost, water and place in a sunny location. The seeds wil gernimate in about 2 weeks. Water by placing the pot base in water, do not water the top of the pot. Transplant into a sunny sheltered ploition in the garden or into a larger pot if the plants are to be kept in a greenhouse. Collect leaves regularly and pinch out any flower buds.
