Chillies, also known as Hot Peppers, come in a variety of colours, they can be red, yellow, green, orange and purple. They also vary in shape and the amount of ‘heat’ they contain.
Fill a seed tray to just below the rim with moist seed compost for multiple plants or use a pot if only a few plants are being grown. Firm the compost in, to create a level surface and then scatter the seeds thinly on top. Finally, cover beds with a 5mm layer of compost or vermiculite and place the tray either in a heated propagator at a temperature of 21–25°C or in a warm place such as an airing cupboard. When the plants emerge and have two leaves prick them out individually into 13cm pots filled with general purpose compost and move them into a greenhouse. When the danger of frost has passed, plant outside either in 22.5cm pots, in either end of a growbag or directly into the ground.
Pick the chillies once ripened to make way for new ones to form.
