Using the Measure Tool

Learn how to use VegPlotter's measure tool to measure distances on your garden plan

The measure tool lets you measure distances directly on your garden plan. It is useful when positioning beds, paths and structures to make sure everything is spaced correctly.

Measurements are displayed in your preferred units of measure (e.g. feet, metres, centimetres). You can change your preferred units from your plot settings.

Enabling the Measure Tool

Click the tape measure icon at the top right of the plan area (just below the snapshot button) to enable the measure tool. The icon will change to a highlighted state to show that the tool is active.

Drawing a Measurement

With the measure tool enabled, click and drag on the plan from the start point to the end point. A dashed line will appear as you drag showing the measurement being created.

When you release the mouse button, the measurement is placed on the plan. A label at the midpoint of the line shows the distance in your preferred units.

Tip

You can also tap (without dragging) on the plan to place a default horizontal measurement of 100cm at that point.

After placing a measurement, the measure tool is automatically deactivated. Click the tape measure icon again if you want to place another measurement.

Selecting and Adjusting a Measurement

Click on a measurement line to select it. When selected, arrow-shaped handles appear at each end of the line. You can drag these handles to reposition either end of the measurement.

You can also drag the line itself to move the entire measurement to a new position. The distance label updates automatically as you adjust the measurement.

When a measurement is selected, the side panel shows the current length and angle. You can type exact values into these fields to set a precise measurement.

Clearing Measurements

To remove a single measurement, select it and press the delete key or use the delete icon at the top left of the plan area.

To clear all measurements at once, double-click the tape measure icon. This will remove every measurement from the plan.

Note

Measurements are temporary and are not saved with your plan. They will be cleared when you leave the page or refresh. They are intended as a quick way to check distances while you work on your plan layout.

Undo and Redo

Creating, moving and deleting measurements can all be undone and redone using the undo/redo buttons at the top right of the plan area, or with the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Z (undo) and Ctrl+Y (redo).
