Florence Fennel is usually grown for the swollen stem, but the feathery leaves are also eddible. Florence fennel has a mild aniseed flavour that goes well in many dishes and salads. Many people avoid growning florence fennel as it has a tendancy to bolt at the slightest stress. As long as you keep it well watered and on a rich well drained soil it is fairly easy to grow.

How To Grow

Florence Fennel is not one for sowing in pots and transplanting as the stress will certainly cause it to bolt as soon as it can. It is best to sow direct in the soil in rows. Once seedlings are big enough to prick out thin to the spacings in the table below.

How/When To Harvesting

Once the bulbs are fist size (or sooner) harvest by slicing though the root just below the soil with a sharp knife.
