Cherry trees produce a stunning display of flowers in the spring and then you get a crop of cherries to eat in the summer.
Cherry trees are normally grown by nurseries, the young trees will be either bare root or in pots. Find a spot which is sunny and sheltered, the soil should be good quality and free draining. Dig in well rotted manure to the area, then dig a hole one third larger than the pot or root ball, hammer on a supporting stake before you plant, then plant the tree, spreading out the roots and back fill the hole so that the tree is at the same level as it was before. Tie the tree to the stake with a tree tie making sure the bark does not rub on the stake. Water the tree well and continue watering regularly for the first year.
