Celery

Celery is considered to be a difficult crop to grow, but modern varieties make it much simpler.

How To Grow

Celery seed is very small so sow very carefully. Sow indoors in March, sprinkle on a fine compost and lightly cover with vermiculite or sand, keep in a warm place and water daily until the seeds germinate, then keep in a greenhouse. When the plants are large enough, transplant into small pots and keep in the greenhouse. When the risk of frosts is reduced harden off in a cold frame until there is no risk of frost, then transplant 27cm apart, best grown in a grid pattern. Water regularly in dry weather, never let the plants dry out or they will tend to go to seed.
