Broad (Fava/Faba) Bean

Broadbeans, also known as Fava beans or Faba beans, are a good stop gap crop, which harvests as early as May.

How To Grow

In southern counties broad beans can be sown in November and will germinate in 2 to 4 weeks, they will overwinter well, but if it gets very cold a fleece cover will protect the plants. For spring planting, sow seed under cover in February to plant out in the spring or direct in March. As the plants grow support with a cane frame and twine.
